The financier purchased a more modest island - the Little St James - originally in 1998, but acquired the bigger Great St James in the year 2016 for approximately $22.5 million.
These photos suggest he had created development schemes to transform the 161-acre island by constructing homes, an open-air theater, an underwater office and a reservoir.
You can see the drawing is Pillsbury Sound, a strait in the region, marked on the south-eastern section.
